Upon successful completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for a front-line SIA Security Guard licence. With a valid licence, you can work in various settings such as commercial buildings, office receptions, construction sites, and shopping centres.

What Does the Security Guard Course Cover?
The Security Guard Course consists of three core units:
- Working within the Private Security Industry.
- Working as a Security Guard within the Private Security Industry.
- Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry.
Duration & Entry Requirements
How Long is the Security Guard Course and What Are the Entry Requirements?
The Security Guard Course is a classroom-based training program delivered over four full days (9 am to 6 pm). To be eligible, learners must meet the following requirements:
- Be aged 18 or over.
- Possess sufficient reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to communicate clearly.
First Aid Requirement:
Do I need a First Aid Certificate for the Security Guard Course?
Yes, it’s a requirement by the SIA that learners hold a valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate. The certificate must be valid for at least 12 months from the course start date. If you don’t have a First Aid qualification, you can book the training through us.
Assessment
How is the Security Guard Course Assessed?
The course includes multiple-choice exams and practical assessments. To pass, learners must achieve at least 70% in all three units and successfully complete the practical assessment (visually recorded). The practical assessment typically takes around 20 minutes per learner.
Certification
What Qualification Will I Receive After Successful Completion?
Upon successful completion, learners will receive the Highfield Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6.
This qualification is recognized by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). With this certification, you can apply for the SIA Security Guard Licence, allowing you to work as a qualified Security Guard throughout the United Kingdom.
